Custom Design Experience

A custom jewelry piece allows you to create something that is truly your own, reflecting your own sense of style and taste. It is a process as much as it is a jewelry piece and we are happy to guide you through each step. At Ponthieux's we are committed to creating unique jewelry of the highest quality that will be cherished for years to come.

Step 1: Design Consultation

Our experienced designers will work with you one-on-one to create your custom design. Whether you know exactly what you want or need a little guidance, our team will work with you to create the perfect custom jewelry piece. Book your design consultation today and start dreaming!

Getting Technical

Step 2: Computer-aided design

After your design consultation, our jewelers will bring your ideas to life on our computer screen using computer-aided design (CAD) software. With CAD, our jewelers create a complete digital rendering of your piece before it is physically created. This allows them to make adjustments easily and provides you with a realistic model to try on.

Try it on

Step 3: Review your prototype

Before we create your design in precious metal, we invite you to try on a model of your piece. This model is true to size and will have all the details you envisioned. If something doesn't feel quite right we can make adjustments and produce another prototype for you to try on. Our goal with this phase of our design experience is to ensure you love it before casting.

Red Hot

Step 4: Casting

With your model approved, we cast your piece right here in our store. Casting is the process of taking your prototype and making a plaster mold that can withstand the 1,943° F molten metal we pour into it. Once the precious metal cools your piece "pops" out of the mold.

Bench Time

Step 5: Setting, polishing, and more

A jeweler's bench is where your custom jewelry design all comes together. We like to think of this bench as a familiar spot where we do our best work. This is where we set your stones with perfect tension, apply the finish of your choice, and polish your piece to bring out its brilliance.

Step 6: Pick up your custom creation

Once your piece leaves a jeweler's bench, it goes through a final quality inspection process to make sure your jewelry is perfect for pick up. When customers pick up their custom jewelry, they are often overcome with emotion as they hold it in their hands for the first time. For our designers and jewelers, creating this experience is a labor of love. A love reflected in every sparkling stone and intricate design detail.

  • Yes, we require appointments so we can make sure a designer is available to meet with you. You can schedule your initial consultation here or by calling us at (864) 370-4466.

  • It’s helpful to bring any design inspiration you may have such as pictures printed from the internet, photos saved from Pinterest, magazine clippings, etc. Knowing what style you like helps narrow down design options for our jewelry designers. Additionally, if you would like to reset any gemstones or diamonds that you already own into your new jewelry piece, please bring these along as well.

  • From start to finish, 6-8 weeks is the average time frame to create a custom piece of jewelry. Design times vary so we encourage you to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the process. Please contact us for details on our current custom design timelines.

  • There are many different factors that contribute to the price of a custom jewelry piece including the metal type, size of the gemstones/diamonds, number of stones, the complexity of design, etc. After your free design consultation, we’ll be able to provide you with a quote for your project based on the design we discussed with you.

  • Yes! We love working with sentimental stones and metal. We are happy to reset stones or melt gold into your new custom jewelry when the project allows. We also can supply new gemstones and gold to supplement what you have if necessary.

  • Right here in our studio. We do not outsource any part of the process. The jewelers you see behind the benches are the ones who will bring your design to life.

  • Yes, we provide an appraisal with each piece of custom jewelry for your records and insurance needs. There may be a nominal fee for our appraisal team to evaluate customer provided stones.
